The Source Philisophy

Left to themselves, people tend to ignore their health in the blind pursuit of productivity or comfort. At the SOURCE Institute we believe in maintaining a balance of health and performance. We educate our clients to care for themselves on the structural, chemical, and emotional levels as they pursue their goals. While there may be times when the short-term sacrifice of health is acceptable in pursuit of excellence, we at the SOURCE Institute are especially sensitive to establishing long-term wellness and health as we work towards our truest potential. We believe that if you properly balance health and performance, you will achieve greater levels of success in both.

PERFORMANCE:

Performance is defined as the accomplishment of a task. However, performance also has to do with the manner in which, or the efficiency with which, something reacts to or fulfills its intended purpose. At SOURCE, we will use our next generation methods to help you get from where you may be now to where you hope to be while staying true to your long-term health and the psychological implications of the journey.

HEALTH: A Tripartite Approach

Structural Balance

Phase 1:  Flexibility & Stability

The Structural Phase is the first phase of training.  During this phase, we focus on restoring optimal range of motion and joint stability. This is the “tune up” phase.  Before we begin to focus on performance enhancement, we want to be sure that your structure is balanced and that everything moves and functions the way it was designed to. This phase is crucial for both injury prevention and the ability to reach one’s athletic potential.

Phase 2:  Comprehensive Strength

Once you’ve completed your “tune-up,” you will be ready to start increasing your horse power with Phase 2. In this phase, we use our next generation methods to develop comprehensive, functional strength.

There are six different subcategories of strength: stability, general strength & hypertrophy, maximal strength, explosive strength, stretch shortening cycle, and strength endurance. Depending on your goal and/or sport, your SOURCE training program will emphasize the necessary strength sub-qualities accordingly. Along with flexibility and stability, strength then becomes a base for the next phase of training, the development of power and speed.

Phase 3:  Power & Speed

Power can best be defined as the ability to transform strength into speed. The presence of power differentiates between the person who may look strong and the fully functioning athlete who can optimally apply his strength with explosive power on the playing field.  Our coaches understand that speed is a function of both strength and flexibility. Therefore, the achievement of optimal speed is impossible without also training for strength and flexibility.  This is one of the many reasons that the SOURCE Training Model rests firmly on a foundation of flexibility and strength.  In addition, when training for running speed, proper biomechanics are extremely important. At the SOURCE Institute, we apply the most advanced and research based methods to improve the biomechanics of running. While it may take years to reach your speed potential, significant gains can be made in only one training session at the SOURCE Institute via proper analysis and adjustment of your biomechanics.
